THE CANCER ARCHETYPE
the volatility and tumultuous nature of the moon is something i still feel people don’t grasp when it comes to understanding the cancer archetype. if you have moon-ruled placements, you get it.
the moon’s phases span the entire spectrum of dark and light. the moon makes us capable of great gentleness AND force. the moon generates the constant motion of the tides (water = feeling, emotions). the emotional landscape of moon-ruled placements changes moment to moment.
just as there are times for high tide and low tide, moon-ruled people are aware of their emotional habits and can intuit when certain feelings and moods are coming onto them. however, “rogue waves” are a part of their emotional landscape too.
great surges of passion, anger, and sorrow can wash over moon-ruled individuals, leaving them gasping for air. emotions can feel all-consuming to them, often choosing to go with the flow of the powerful emotions rather than to resist them.
the nature of the moon and the ocean can tell us a lot about the patterns and behaviors of cancers and moon-ruled folks. they possess great power and influence with an incredible range of emotion and movement. to reduce these placements to cranky crybabies is a misstep.
moon-ruled placements can act as the moon does in social settings — their presence can sway the tide of a room. they can reflect a great deal of energy and generate conversations, or they can absorb energy and be a total stick in the mud.
because the moon is a luminary body, it can be difficult for moon-ruled people to hide their feelings. you know how folks say you can see “the man on the moon” through its craters that form facial features? their emotions tend to shine through on their highly expressive face.
